It's a cover up: Katie Holmes came over all coy, she wore a very short minidress to the screening of her new film, The Romantics, but opted to wear tights


Katie Holmes came over all coy at the screening of her new film in New York tonight.

She pitched up at the screening of her new film The Romantics in a very short print dress by Jason Wu paired with a black jacket from her own label Holmes Yang with Azzedine Alaia shoes.

But unusually she opted to to keep her toned legs under wraps in a pair of thick black tights.


One of these girls is doing her own thing: Actresses Rebecca Lawrence and Malin Akerman both wore tight-fitting shift dresses with bare arms and legs.


But compared to her female co-stars from the film, she looked rather wrapped up and slightly under-dressed.

However, Katie looked well wrapped up in her outfit complete with jacket and tights.

Katie and Tom hit the red carpet together at The Cinema Society’s screening of her new film, The Romantics in New York City.

It capped off a busy day for the actress who has been on promotional duties for the film over the last 24 hours.

The 31-year-old actress and her husband were spotted leaving their apartment together this morning before she taped an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly.

Speaking about what drew her to The Romantics, she said: 'I really loved the script when I read it.

'It felt a lot like The Big Chill and St. Elmo's Fire and also a little bit of a John Hughes feeling, and I always loved those movies growing up.

'Then I met with [director Galt Niederhoffer] and I thought she was so smart, and the cast started coming together and just the feel of it, the look of it and the people that were involved in it was really exciting.'

Katie was executive producer on the film, and she said her contribution was mainly: 'Lots of cupcakes and coffee, that was really the extent of it! I was really flattered when I was able to have this position.

'I just tried to help when I could and sort of cheer people on. I actually used this time to learn even more from everyone, from the producers and the director, so it was really wonderful and I really appreciated that.'

Later in the day, Katie dropped by the Ed Sullivan Theatre to chat with David Letterman.

No doubt she woke to see a bouquet of roses by her bedside.

Katie recently told Parade: 'My husband has red roses for me everywhere I go. And she waxed lyrical about being a mother: 'Being a mother is so dreamy.'

'You have to keep the activities up,' says Holmes, 'but she's so comfortable and she loves to sing and dance.'

And while Katie worked Tom played the doting father taking their daughter Suri, 4, out for a fun outing to New York's Central Park.
