Hasn’t Anne read the reviews? Hathaway celebrates like SHE won an Oscar

By SARAH BULL

A little early to celebrate: Anne Hathaway and James Franco ended their Oscars hosting gig triumphantly

Punching the air triumphantly at the end of the Oscars ceremony, it was clear that Anne Hathaway and her co-host James Franco were ready to pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

Anne was later seen partying up a storm at the Weinstein after-party, throwing back champagne and dancing animatedly with a borrowed Oscar statuette.

But as the actress toasted her hosting gig, critics were already writing up scathing reviews of her and co-host James Franco's 'clumsy and downright painful' skits.

Party time: Anne parties with boyfriend Adam Shulman and The Kings Speech producer Gareth Unwin

It had been hoped that employing Anne and James as hosts for this year's Academy Awards would give the ceremony a young and fresh feel.

But despite bringing their considerable comedic talents to the plate while presenting the Academy Awards, using skits and montages to add to their hosting duties, the pair's performance was met with mixed critical reception.

The 83rd Academy Awards opened with a montage of Hathaway and Franco delving into the mind of former Oscar winner Alec Baldwin in an Inception-inspired moment, narrated by the smooth-voiced Morgan Freeman.

And things continued to get more and more surreal, as the pair poked fun at The King's Speech, which took home four Oscars, The Fighter and True Grit, as well as The Social Network and Back to the Future.

I like the feel of this: Anne borrowed an Oscar statuette to take for a spin on the dance floor at the Weinstein party

Having a good time? The actress appeared incredibly animated as she arrived at the Weinstein Oscar party

Perhaps the funniest moment of the opening montage, however, was Hathaway and Franco both donning leotards and tutus to join Natalie Portman in Black Swan.

The pair attempted to impress the hard-nosed Vincent Cassel with their dancing abilities, and left Portman looking flustered with their 'talent'.
Hathaway also returned to her former duty at the Oscars in 2009 when she joined then-host Hugh Jackman for a duet to open the show.

Oh, mother! Madonna embarrasses Lourdes as she brandishes her bottom on red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars party

By BAZ BAMIGBOYE

Spot the teen: Lourdes Leon, 14, was out with her mother Madonna at the Vanity Fair Oscar party last night - and guess who was dressed the most outrageously...

It's every 14-year-old's worst nightmare. You get a ticket to the coolest party in town, but then your mother spoils it by tagging along wearing inappropriate clothing and what's worse, exposes her behind to all and sundry.

On the red carpet, that's just what happened when 52-year-old Madonna left daughter Lourdes blushing with embarrassment on the red carpet of the Vanity Fair party last night.

The Material Girl had gone out wearing little more than a black leotard and a few scraps of lace and the mortified teen was heard pleading: 'Mum, do you have to?!’ every time her popstar parent struck a pose and poked out her posterior for the waiting cameras.

All smiles: Raven-haired Lourdes appeared to have beaten her embarrassment as she grinned for the photographers

'Is that my mom's butt..? I hope my dress isn't that short': Lourdes catches sight of her mother's behind before self-consciously pulling her own dress down

She told Access Hollywood: '(My mom) does actually (borrow my clothes). I go into her closet - I'm not supposed to take things without asking, but she's always taking things without asking.

'I mean, she gets mad at me when I take things without asking her, but... she has such amazing like clothes, so it's like kind of annoying sometimes... She wears my shoes a lot and she wears my accessories.'

And the winner is...Natalie Portman hands over her Oscar for Best Actress to get engraved with her name at the Governor's Ball

Grub's up: Wolfgang Puck arrives with a tray of Oscar-themed food that was being served at the ball

Across town meanwhile, the official Academy Awards afterparty, the Governor's Ball was taking place.

The catering meanwhile was being delivered by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who's been in charge of the menus there for the past 17 years.

Puck said ahead of the event: ‘For the main course, we have English sole with a confit of tomatoes and a paella. This is a vegetarian paella because I know Natalie Portman is a vegan – so she’s going to have a big bowl of that!'

Proud: Colin Firth poses with his Best Actor Oscar at the Governor's Ball

Say hello to my little friend: Firth has no qualms about letting fans hold his Oscar as he parties the night away

However, before the pregnant star could tuck into her dinner, there was the important job of getting a certain gold statuette inscribed with her name...

She wasn't the only winner making a beeline to the inscription table either.

Best Actor winner Colin Firth was one of the first inline and after graciously posing for photos with his, got out his own phone to take a few snaps of it.

Kathryn Schwarz, the Academy's official keeper of the Oscars, said: 'It's a little something special to have your name on it.'

Take your mama out: Russell Brand took hus mother Barbara to the Governor's Ball

Couple's night: Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter had scrubbed up well for their night out too

Awards regulars: Oscar winner Helen Mirren was also at the ball with her film producer husband Taylor Hackford

Back down to earth: Pregnant Natalie Portman dresses for comfort in flat shoes after Oscars win

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Low key: Natalie Portman and her fiancé Benjamin Millepied enjoyed breakfast in LA today following her best actress win at the Oscars

Natalie Portman swapped red carpet glamour for practical maternity wear today following her triumphant night at the Academy Awards.

The 29-year-old, who is pregnant with her first child, kicked off her high heels for comfortable flats as she celebrated her best actress win with a low-key breakfast in Los Angeles.

She was joined by Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied at Square One Dining in Los Angeles.

The star admitted this week that she was looking forward to putting her feet up after the awards season.

'Staying at home with messy hair in sweats... is the biggest luxury of all,' she said.

Last night Portman paid tribute to her fiancé for giving her the 'most important role of her life' during her acceptance speech.

During a tearful moment, the actress paid tribute to her friends, family and co-stars and described her win as 'insane'.

Comfortable: The Black Swan star wore flats and a casual outfit for her post-Oscars outing

Fighting back tears, Portman thanked her parents, Avner and Shelley Hershlag, for 'giving me my life, the opportunity to work from such an early age and showing me how to be a good human being by example'.

She also honoured Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who she described as a 'fearless leader and visionary', and her friends 'who are everything to me, no matter what's going on in my career'.

Looking lovingly at Millepied, a ballet dancer, she thanked her 'beautiful love' and said he had 'given me the most important role of my life'.

She's off: Glynis Barber announces she's leaving EastEnders as scheming Glenda Mitchell quits Albert Square

By Jody Thompson

Screen lovers: Glenda Mitchell, played by Glynis Barber, right, has been having an affair with Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, left

Glynis Barber has revealed that she's to leave EastEnders after more than a year as one of the more glamorous residents of Walford.

OK! magazine reports that the former Dempsey And Makepeace star, who plays Ronnie and Roxy's gold-digging mother Glenda Mitchell in the soap, has confirmed she plans to bow out of the show next month.

The 55-year-old actress will quit the Square after daughter Roxy (Rita Simmons) accuses her of stealing some of her inheritance.

However, Glynis hinted that she may well be leaving Albert Square via a black cab rather than a coffin so she hasn't ruled out returning to the soap in the future.

Writing on her official website, she said: '2010 was a busy and exciting year for me playing Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders. After Glenda manages to alienate practically everyone on Albert Square, she makes her exit in March 2011.

'But will she be back in the future to wreak more havoc? Well "she ain't dead" so anything is possible... watch this space!'

However, in typical soap fashion, Glenda is hoping to achieve maximum damage befiore she leaves the Square by revealing all about her affair with Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, to try and convince Roxy he planted the inheritance money in her home.

Glynis, who is married to her former Dempsey And Makepeace co-star Michael Brandon, said of the plot: 'Glenda doesn't think that Roxy will take Phil's word over hers, so she's devastated when she does.

Now that's hustling! Hustle star Kelly Adams bucks celebrity trend and gets married in a ceremony that cost just £200

By Jody Thompson

Happy couple: Hustle actress Kelly Adams and husband Chris Kennedy on their wedding day - which cost just £200

Hustle star Kelly Adams has proved that not all celebrities are extravagant when it comes to nuptials - and tied the knot with her fashion photographer fiancĂ© Chris Kennedy for just £200.

Kelly’s mother paid for the meal and so their costs were mainly for the ceremony, which took place in Hackney Town Hall in East London.

After the ceremony, the couple had a low-key lunch with family and friends in a local restaurant.

The happy couple then headed to a local pub where they were joined by more friends including fellow actors Matt Di Angelo and Jay Jacobs.

Talking to Hello! magazine afterwards, Kelly, who did her own hair and make-up for the big day, said: 'We really didn’t want it to be a big deal.

'It was very romantic, very fun and very us.'

It's on: Kelly as Emma with her Hustle co-stars (from left to right) Robert Glenister as Ash, Robert Vaughn as Albert, Adrian Lester as Mickey and Matt Di Angelo as Sean

The star, who plays Emma Kennedy in the BBC1 hit show about con artists, found her 1950s cream silk dress in a vintage shop in Brighton just days before her special day.

Kelly also revealed that she proposed to Chris when they were on a break in Bruges on his birthday last year - even though initially she never thought she believed in marriage.

'Chris is very smug about the fact that I asked him,' she laughed.

However, the actress said that she doesn't want children 'just yet'.

She explained: 'Chris is only 26 and, as an actress, my 30s are the best years. In your 20s you spend your time playing babes, you won’t get so many gritty, amazing parts. So I’ll hang fire for a while.'

The last in this series of Hustle was earlier this month, but the show is set to return next year.

That must be worth a Blue Peter badge! Presenter Helen Skelton becomes first to walk across Battersea Power Station in daring charity challenge

By David Wilkes

Fearless: Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton became the first person to high-wire walk across Battersea Power Station today after completing her challenge for Red Nose Day 2011

It took a lot more than sticky back plastic for her to hold it together.

But then Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton was teetering on a steel wire slightly narrower than a 10p coin suspended 217ft up between two of Battersea Power Station’s chimneys.

Yesterday the plucky 27-year-old became the first person to do the high-wire walk at the South London landmark, taking a nerve-racking 14 minutes to complete the 160-yard journey.

Daring: Helen took just 11 minutes to complete the feat as she crossed the wire 66 metres in the air

Nearly there: The end is in sight for Helen as she travelled across the wire to the other stack

The weather was windy and she had to take countless deep breaths to stop herself from wobbling.

For the last few steps she could barely see because one of her contact lenses had fallen out.

Miss Skelton, who trained for two months for the stunt in aid of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on March 18, completed her walk without a net, although she did wear a harness attached to a safety wire.

Hugs all round: Helen is congratulated by fellow Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere after completing the challenge

Delighted: Helen looks rightfully excited about finishing the wire-walk without having fallen at all

Celebration: Helen does a jump of delight in front of Battersea Power Station for photographers

The presenter, who last year completed a 2,000-mile solo kayak along the Amazon for Sport Relief, said: ‘This is definitely the scariest thing I’ve done. I was freaking out because the first bit was so wobbly. After the first five steps, I wanted to go back. It’s a relief to get it finished.’

Viewers can watch Miss Skelton in action in Comic Relief: Girl On Wire, to be shown on BBC1 on March 11 at 7.30pm.

Love's young dream: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez FINALLY make their red carpet debut together at Vanity Fair Oscars party

By SARAH BULL

Love's young dream: Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber made their red carpet debut together at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in Los Angeles last night

They've been quietly dating since November but have been maintaining a low profile ever since.

But last night, teen sensations Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez finally confirmed their relationship by making their first official red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in Los Angeles.

With their arms wrapped around each other, the young pair stared lovingly into each others' eyes as they posed for photographers on the red carpet outside the Sunset Tower Hotel.

Dolce & Gabbana duo: Gomez looked stunning in a red dress, while Bieber wore a sharp black suit and red pocket square

The couple had even colour coordinated their outfits for the occasion, with 16-year-old Bieber donning a red pocket square in his black Dolce & Gabbana suit to complement 18-year-old Gomez's floor-length red gown, also by D&G.

Wizards of Waverley Place star Gomez accessorised her Grecian-inspired gown with Brian Atwood heels, Judith Leiber bag and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Gomez and Bieber were first romantically linked last year, after a series of meetings including Gomez visiting Bieber on his tour bus.

Starlets: The teenage sensations mixed with Hollywood royalty at the annual Oscar after-party

However, the Disney sensations declined to comment on their pairing for months, instead answering coyly about the status of their relationship.

Recently, a bold fan quizzed Bieber during an MTV question and answer session if he was dating the stunning singer and actress, to which he replied: 'I think anyone would be lucky to date her. She’s a great person.'

He later added: 'I like girls with nice, pretty eyes and a nice smile. I like girls that are funny because I like to laugh and joke around.'

Gomez has maintained an equally coy attitude about Bieber, saying previously that she considers the Never Say Never star family.

Loved-up: The pair have been quietly dating since November but have kept things under wraps until now

Recalling the first time the pair met, Gomez explained: 'When he first started to come over from Canada his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid.

'I feel like a big sister now, because I want to protect him.'

But when she was asked if she was suffering from 'Bieber Fever' at the Grammy Awards last month, Gomez replied to Access Hollywood: 'I love him. He’s been in my life a very long time. He’s my friend.'

Gomez added she wasn't worried about the attention she was getting for her relationship with Bieber, despite Kim Kardashian receiving death threats from hundreds of fans when she and the singer joked about a mutual crush.

Gomez laughed: 'I think it’s awesome people are interested – I don’t understand why.'
Bieber and Gomez looked delighted to be mixing with Hollywood royalty at the Vanity Fair party as they made their way into the exclusive event.

Giggles all round: The pair appeared to be in high spirits as they attended the exclusive event together

Earlier in the evening, Bieber had backed True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld to take home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

He tweeted: 'Good luck to my friend Hailee Steinfeld tonight on the #oscars . young people going for theirs! also want Christian Bale to win. #TheFighter.'

But it seems the grandeur of the party might have reminded Bieber of how lucky he has been, as he later added on Twitter: 'i'm never gonna change...i will always remember...i will always be that kid from stratford...I will always be grateful.'

Grown-up glamour: Emma Stone opted for a Chanel dress, while True Blood star Anna Paquin went for red

The cute couple weren't the only young celebrities gracing the red carpet at the star-studded event.

Country star Taylor Swift caused a stir in a tiny jewelled gold Zuhair Murad dress, while actresses Emma Stone and True Blood star Anna Paquin went for very different looks for the party.

Stone opted for an oriental-inspired Chanel Haute Couture dress with purple satin heels, while newlywed Paquin looked stunning in a ruffled red Monique Lhuillier dress and Brian Atwood black shoes.
