Dannii Minogue tucks into hearty lunch as she and Kris Smith prepare for baby's birth

Tucking in: Dannii Minogue and Kris Smith have lunch at the Water Shed Restaurant at the Crown Casino in Melbourne

First as a young pop star and now as a judge on the X Factor, Dannii Minogue has long had to watch her weight.

But as she prepares for the impending birth of her first child, it's no surprise to see the 38-year-old filling up with hearty meals.

Dannii joined boyfriend Kris Smith for lunch in Melbourne yesterday, and wasn't shy about eating her fill.

The pair then relaxed over coffee, before doting Kris held Dannii's hand as they headed back to the car.

Dannii is now planning on remaining with her family in Australia until after the expected July arrival of her child.

The couple have said they know the sex of their baby but they are keeping the news under wraps.

Plenty to smile about: The couple have made no secret of their joy

But former rugby player Kris appeared to have let the cat out of the bag this week, when he referred to his child as 'her'.

He revealed: 'There have been a few sleepless nights but it will be all worth it to see her beautiful little face.'

The slip-up came when he was being interviewed on Australian TV to raise money for Olivia Newton John's Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne.

Last month Kris posted a photo of a black and white baby jumpsuit onto his Twitter page, triggering speculation he and Dannii are expecting a boy.

After the birth Dannii will be heading back to Britain to continue her role as a judge on the X Factor.

Next month also sees the launch of her new clothing line, Project D.

The hard-working star is the face of Marks & Spencer's current ad campaign, in which she co-stars alongside Twiggy, Lisa Snowdon and singer VV Brown.

She is also writing her autobiography, scheduled for release this autumn.
