It's Goodrem to meet you, Wills: Delta puts a smile on the prince's face at royal reception

Introductions: Prince William meets singer and former Neighbours star Delta Goodrem during a visit to the Governor General's home overlooking Sydney Harbour

He's royalty and she is about as close as it gets in Australia.

So no wonder that Prince William and Delta Goodrem got on like old friends when they met in Sydney yesterday.

The prince, arriving from New Zealand for a semi-official visit Down Under, was introduced to the former Neighbours star and pop princess at a lunch reception hosted by the Governor General at her official residence overlooking the harbour.

Glamorous guest: Award-winning Australian singer Delta wore an unusual white blouse and black skirt with grey suede shoe boots for the meeting

Miss Goodrem, 25, and Wills spent some time chatting before sitting down to salmon and beef alongside 16 other local 'movers and shakers'.

The glamorous blonde, who is engaged to former Westlife star Brian McFadden, said beforehand: 'I'm a very patriotic Australian and am really looking forward to talking to him about what this country has to offer.'

Despite her charms, the prince is still clearly a one-woman man. Asked twice when he would pop the question to his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton, the 27-year-old grinned and said: 'As I keep saying, just wait and see.'

He normally refuses to acknowledge his girlfriend, so the comment was seized upon as a sign that a royal wedding may be around the corner.
