Pale Catherine Zeta-Jones looks skinnier than ever in a fuchsia mini-dress

Tired: Eight shows a week and caring for two children appears to be taking its toll on a wan-looking Catherine Zeta-Jones

After six months of performing on Broadway and caring for two children, it's no surprise Catherine Zeta-Jones is feeling tired.

But the Oscar winner did little to help herself yesterday as she stepped out wearing a fuchsia mini-dress, which made her look washed out.

Not only did the dress make the Welsh actress, 40, appear even paler, the loose-fitting shape only accentuated her skinny frame.

As one of the brightest colours on the fashion palette, stylists would usually recommend someone has a tan or darker skin if choosing to wear fuchsia.

Zeta-Jones has been steadily losing weight over the past few months as she performs eight shows a week in A Little Night Music.

Previews of the show opened in November and the actress still has another seven weeks to go before the production ends.

Not so fabulous in fuchsia: Catherine Zeta-Jones looks washed out and frail as she left her Manhattan apartment yesterday, compared to a healthier look in 2007

Instead of her previously curvy frame, the star's frame has diminished, with her weight loss most apparent on her sinewy legs.

In addition to her gruelling Broadway schedule, Zeta-Jones is also mother to nine-year-old son Dylan and daughter Carys, seven.

The actress also supported her husband Michael Douglas during his son Cameron's recent trial for drug charges.

Cameron, 31, was sentenced to five years in prison after the Douglas family wrote letters begging for leniency from the usual 10 year mandatory sentence for such charges.

In the past, Zeta-Jones has spoken out against ‘scary’ Hollywood women who bow to pressure to lose weight, particularly after having a baby.

She has said: ‘I think it’s awful, this competition between actresses who just had a baby to see who’s first to get back to their normal weight. It’s insane. I find this wave of super-skinny women scary.’

But after being pictured looking thin in 2007, she had to deny reports that she was anorexic. She said her weight loss was a result of eating well.

She said at the time: ‘How could I ever, ever be anorexic? I’m just working out and not chomping down what I usually chomp down.’
