It might have seemed like a good idea at the time.

A snazzy little sequined dress that would make Catherine Zeta Jones stand out from the crowds at an awards dinner.

Unfortunately the 40-year-old actress looked like she was about to step on set of Dancing On Ice to practice her double toe loops and triple axles

The very short skaters-style outfit also served to show off the her incredibly thin legs and petite frame.

The star has been on a gruelling Broadway schedule which sees her perform eight shows a week in Stephen Sondheim classic, A Little Night Music.

But it seemed the hard work has been worth it.

At the 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards in New York last night, she shared the top prize for best actress in a musical.

The Welsh beauty, who won an Oscar in the film of the musical Chicago, is starring as Desiree Armfeldt in the show

She sings the famous Stephen Sondheim song Send In The Clowns.

Last night she shared the award with Montego Glover, the star of Broadway show Memphis, at the ceremony at LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center.

Scarlett Johansson was also at the event after being nominated for an outstanding featured actress in a play award for A View From The Bridge.

Anne Hathaway attended after being nominated as outstanding actress in a play for Twelfth Night.

Husband Michael Douglas, 65, was there to support her. The couple have been married for 10 years and he recently spoke about how proud he was of his wife for posing naked.

She peeled off for magazine Allure to celebrate turning 40
'They were just awesome pictures,' he said. 'They kind of came out of the blue.

'This photographer that she works with she knows very well and feels comfortable with and he’s very good and so, I mean, why not?'
