X Factor's Mary Byrne considering gastric band operation in desperate bid to lose weight

By SIMON CABLE

Desperate: Mary Byrne's daughter has said the X Factor contestant would consider having a gastric band fitted

She doesn't look like your average pop star.

But X Factor star Mary Byrne is so desperate to lose weight that she is ready to use a gastric band to help her slim down.

The Tesco worker, who has taken the show by storm, is currently competing against stick-thin acts such as Cher Lloyd and has already spoken of her battle to shed three stone.

Asked if her mother would consider having a gastric band fitted, Deborah Byrne, 23, said: 'If the offer was there she could but I think she wants to do it naturally.

'If it came down to the crunch, and she had to, she probably would,' she told New! Magazine.

'She gets down about her weight. She does want to lose weight, obviously for health reasons. But she doesn't complain about it.

But her daughter has now revealed that surgery may be the only option after failing to lose the weight naturally.

She has also admitted that her mother often takes to the stage in pain because she suffers from arthritis in her legs - a condition which is being made worse by her weight.

She has also claims that the pressure of competing in the show means the 50-year-old star is comfort eating and bingeing on junk food and chocolate.

On a mission: Mary has admitted she is keen to lose weight and get fitter

'She only complains because of the effect it has on the arthritis in her legs. That's what gets to her. But, even when she's in pain, she still gives it 100 per cent.'

The star recently admitted she has been taking a cocktail of anti-depressants and blood pressure tablets to battle her weight problems.

In the first week of the programme Mary, from Ballyfermot, Dublin, collapsed in agony during rehearsals because of her arthritis.

'I'm also on blood pressure tablets and I know I have to lose three stone and I'm determined to do it,' she said.

'The arthritis gets really sore at times. During rehearsals on the first week I had to stop and sit down through them.'

The full interview appears in this week's New! magazine

'After my partner walked out on me to bring up my baby alone I sunk into a dark depression.

'I coped with it by comfort eating and it was a vicious circle. The weight went on dramatically and I ended up hating myself.

'I couldn't stand what I saw when I looked in the mirror. It was very tough and my confidence was at an all time low.

'I was in a rut that I couldn't escape. You can't help but feel unwanted when your partner walks out on you. He didn't want to know about my daughter Debbie and that hurt deeply.

'I put on weight when I was pregnant with the baby then got back down to nine stone. But then it started piling on again as I adjusted to life as a single mum. It was lonely at times.

'But I'm on a mission to get fitter and be in good shape by the end of the show. It's the perfect motivation for me to get healthy.

'I've started to eat better food and try to maintain a healthy diet. I've made no secret of the fact that I'm on anti-depressants too to help me cope with the change of life.

'I'm not looking for sympathy though - I want people to vote for me on the X Factor based on my performances, not the sympathy vote.'

Kate Moss sticks to sombre black as she launches her last ever collection for Topshop

By SARAH BULL

Sombre: Kate Moss stuck to black as she launched her new and final collection for Topshop

It's the end of an era, so it's no wonder Kate Moss is finding it hard to accept.

The 36-year-old model appeared to be mourning the end of her four-year collaboration with Topshop as she stuck to black to launch her last ever collection for the high-street store.

However, being one of the world's most famous supermodels, Kate decided to pull off her outfit with her usual aplomb, and arrived at the Oxford Circus store wearing a custom-made, daring, plunging sparkly black jumpsuit.

And with her blonde hair teased into tumbling curls, as well as a dash of bright red lipstick, Kate looked more than a little like 60's screen siren Brigitte Bardot with her glamorous look.

The launch incorporated a 'shopping extravaganza' party at Topshop's flagship London store, where fans were given the chance to buy designs from the collection ahead of its launch.

Guests were also entertained by a DJ, given the chance to sample the delights at the cocktail bar, and were given a collectible poster with every purchase.

Final farewell: The new collection marks the end of a four-year collaboration between Kate and Topshop

Successor: Kate also posed with Sir Philip's daughter Chloe, who is rumoured to be her replacement

The collection, which is inspired by Seventies fashions, includes floral printed day dresses, velvet hotpants and a black chainmail dress.

Along with her final collection, Topshop is also releasing Kate Iconic, a capsule collection of her 10 most popular designs.

Topshop owner Sir Philip Green, who is also a close friend of Kate, announced in August that the supermodel's collection for the chain would be coming to an end.

He said: 'It has been fantastic for us and fantastic for her, but [the designs] take more and more time and she cannot do this full-time any more.'

Moss and Green met by chance at a charity auction in 2006 and she suggested that they should 'do something' together, as she had always wanted her own fashion line.
When her designs first hit Topshop's flagship store in Oxford Street in May 2007, around 2,000 women queued around the block for the opportunity to spent just 20 minutes perusing the collection.

Speaking about the collection's demise to The New York Times' online T blog recently, Moss said: 'When we started the project we didn't have an end in mind but I'm really proud of all 14 collections.

'I've learned a lot about the design and development process; experiences that I'd only ever seen informally through being a model.'

Swansong: The final collection includes Seventies-inspired outfits

Proud: Kate insists she is proud of all 14 of her Topshop collections

To mark the launch of the collection today, Topshop will also distribute keys on Tuesday on the streets of London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham and Edinburgh to shoppers in a contest for a trunk of the model's dresses.

One lucky fan will have the chance to win the jumpsuit Kate wore to the launch party by choosing a favourite piece from any of the Moss Topshop collections and revealing why.

Kate's final collection is available to buy in store and online now.

Dannii and Cheryl snub Jamiroquai after his foul-mouthed rant before X Factor performance

By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN

Snubbed: Jamiroquai performed his new single on the X Factor last night but was ignored by judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole after his derogatory remarks about them

For someone that's been away from the music scene for some time, you'd have thought that Jay Kay would have been more than grateful for some much-needed air time.

But the Jamiroquai front man's return to live television on the X Factor last night went down like the proverbial lead balloon after he hurled foul-mouthed insults at judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole before he took to the stage.

The singer, 40, appeared on the results programme of the ITV talent show last night to perform his new single White Knuckle Ride.

But his set was met with silence from the two ladies who refused to applaud him after he made the foul-mouthed and derogatory remarks about them this weekend.

Jay Kay - real name Jason Kay - called the two judges 'f***ing useless' in an ill-judged interview that appeared in The Sun newspaper.

He said: 'What the f***. When have you ever done anything? You’re useless. The pair of you.

'I mean you look great and I’d like to f****** s**g you but that’s all.'

He added: 'I just don’t like the w**** stuff I have to do. F****** X Factor and that.

Bad reception: Dannii, Louis Walsh, and Cheryl look unimpressed while Simon Cowelll looks on in bemusement

'I’m going to have to sing in front of f****** amateurs. Do you know what I mean?'

But the singer soon regretted his tirade after Dannii and Cheryl sat talking among themselves during his set and refused to applaud him afterwards.

Fellow judge Louis Walsh also snubbed him while Simon Cowell half-halfheartedly applauded the singer.

Usually, all four judges give guest performers a rousing reception and a standing ovation.

Sheepish: Jay Kay tried to save face as he talked to host Dermot O'Leary after his performance and said he'd had a 'wonderful' time

Saving face: Jay Kay tried to make a joke about his comments as Dermot sought a reaction from the judges

Possibly regretting his comments, Jay Kay then tried to save face with host Dermot O'Leary who came on stage after the set.

Looking sheepish, the singer said: 'I have to say, I’ve had reservations about appearing on the show but I’ve had a wonderful day.

'Everybody’s been charming, it’s been wonderful.'

Dermot then asked Jay Kay if he'd met any of the judges before, to which the singer quipped: 'Well, I’ve met two of them.’

No backstage invite: Jay Kay is snapped leaving the X Factor studios after his performance

Enthusiastic: The judges cheered wildly as they gave singer Rihanna a standing ovation

At that point, Cheryl turned stony-faced towards Dannii as they mouthed something to each other.

Jamiroquai's new album Rock Dust Light Star is released today and is the band's first album since their 2005 offering Dynamite.

Their reaction was completely different to the other guest stars Bon Jovi and Rihanna, who also performed on the live show

Rihanna even got a very enthusiastic standing ovation from the judging panel and Dermot joked to Cheryl that it was good to see her smiling again.

Belle Amie accuse mentor Simon Cowell of spending more time with boy band One Direction following their X Factor exit

By LIZ THOMAS

Exit: Belle Amie were voted off The X Factor last night after facing Katie Waissel in the final showdown

Thrown together because he did not think they would make it on their own Belle Amie struggled to make an impact on The X Factor.

Now the failed girl band have accused Simon Cowell of caring more about the ‘cute boys’ in One Direction.

Blonde Sophia Wardman insisted that they needed more help because girl groups notoriously always struggle to win over the voting public on the talent show.

The 23-year-old claimed Cowell should have spent more time helping them because One Direction - made up of five handsome teenage boys - were always going to be a hit with the audience.

The group, made up of Niall Horan, 17, Harry Styles, 16, Zain Malik, 17, Liam Payne, 17 and Louis Tomlinson, 18, already have huge fan base of teenage girls, which dominate the voting for this kind of show.

Hundreds queued up outside the Wembley Fountain Studios for a chance to glimpse them at the weekend.

Doing their thing: The girls performing during the Hallowe'en-themed show

Favourite: Belle Amie have accused Simon Cowell of spending too much of his time on One Direction

Miss Wardman explained:‘I think it’s a lot easier for the boys to do well because they’re five cute boys and the girls are always going to love them and they are really good.

‘I think for us, we just wanted a little bit more help, just because it’s harder for us to get people to like us, to get the right song and the right styling.

In an interview with Viking FM, she added: ‘You could put the boys out there in bin bags and sing Baa Baa Black Sheep and they’d go through with flying colours. I think it’s just a lot easier for them than us.’

Publicly Miss Wardman, and fellow bandmates Esther Campbell,17 Rebecca Creighton, 21, and Geneva Lane, 20, have insisted that Cowell was a great mentor but it is understood privately they felt that they needed more attention from him.

Last month, Louis Walsh accused him of only being interested in the boy band, which he manufactured at the Boot Camp stage from five individual singers.

Belle Amie have repeatedly appeared in the bottom two prompting Walsh to say on the show: ‘You've got a problem because you're on your own in this competition.

'Simon is putting all his energies into One Direction and it's not fair. You have no mentor. It's not right. They may be too afraid to say anything but I'm not.’

The group were voted off the show on Sunday night after a sing off with controversial contestant Katie Waissel.

The judges went to deadlock with each having two judges vote each, prompting producers to look at the amount of public votes each act had – with the lowest being axed from the show.

The girl group made a great show of praising Cowell after their departure claiming they had a ‘good working relationship’ and he was ‘very hands on’.

But insiders have said the music mogul knows that One Direction will be the big stars of this year’s series and are his priority.

It has also been claimed that Belle Amie simply struggle to fit together as a band – as they all wanted to be solo singers.

With their mentor: Belle Amie with their mentor Simon Cowell

The group have insisted they will stay together and try and make a career as a band but in the past month there have already been arguments behind the scenes about singing parts and styling.

Show stylist Grace Woodward said: ‘I feel Belle Amie are pulling in different directions. They are four solo girls I am not sure they have gelled as a band. ‘

Fellow contestant Matt Cardle predicted the group would split up within a few months because they ‘simply do not get on well enough’.

One Direction, mother of two Rebecca Ferguson, and Matt Cardle are the main contenders to win this year’s series.

Another day another date... Carey Mulligan steps out with a mystery male friend in New York

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Day out: Carey Mulligan and a mystery male friend spend time together in New York City earlier today

She's just been through a heartbreaking split with actor Shia LaBeouf.

But Carey Mulligan seems to be doing her best to get over it.

The 25-year-old actress today went out in New York with a mystery male friend - a week after she was seen enjoying the company of British actor Tom Sturridge.

Looking smart in a tan coloured coat and skinny jeans, Mulligan looked like she was enjoying her day with her casually dressed friend.

The pair sipped coffee and took a stroll around the meatpacking district of New York, before taking in the views of the city's 'High Line' - an elevated urban park.

At one point her friend took in the views through the viewfinder, while Mulligan looked on.

Enjoying the view: The actress and her friend enjoyed taking in the sights of Manhattan in the autumn

Last week, the Wall Street 2 actress was spotted out with British actor Tom Sturridge in Los Angeles.

They were seen leaving West Hollywood's Chateau Marmont hotel together as well as the Best Western in the Hollywood Hills, where she has been residing since her recent split with LaBeouf.

Mulligan, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in An Education, has been in LA to work on her new movie Drive, a £20million heist drama starring Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and Ryan Gosling.

Mulligan moved out of the £1.8million New York apartment she had shared with LaBeouf since they got together in August 2009 after meeting on the set of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

The actress is said to have flown to the Transformers 3 set in Chicago to try to save her relationship with the actor, but failed.

Rumours have abounded linking him to his new co-star in Transformers 3, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, despite the fact the model-turned-actress has been dating Jason Statham for months.

That one WILD outfit! Kim Kardashian wears a bizarre furry sleeve to the basketball

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Bold shoulder: Kim Kardashian wore a strange feather and fur accessory to the basketball in Miami today

Kim Kardashian drew a foul in the fashion stakes at a basketball game in Miami today.
For the most part her outfit was standard It girl attire - with black skinny jeans, knee-high boots and hugely-expensive handbag.

But she trimmed the otherwise ordinary ensemble with extremely strange fur sleeve that covering just one arm.

The fur, which appeared real, sprouted black feathers out of Kim's shoulder and wrapped around her neck like a scarf before extending down her left arm.

Are we related? A furry werewolf mascot bounds up to Kim

The reality star, who turned 30 last week, gave the garment maxim exposure by tying her hair back in a single braid.

At one point, Kim attracted the attention of a similarly furry friend - the New Jersey Nets team mascot.

The animal character bounded up to a startled Kim, who was sitting with good friend Jonathan Cheban and another girlfriend.

One-sleeve wonder: The peculiar number wrapped around her neck and continued down her left arm

The watched on as Miami Heat ended the New Jersey Nets' unbeaten start with a 101-78 victory.

A young staffer on the court who was supposed to throw towels into the crowd, instead bashfully handed one to Kim, who thanked him and then sweetly gave the gift to a little boy nearby.

Kim, who is currently living in New York while filming her new spin-off show, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, recently confessed she's not have much lucking dating in her new city.

She told MTV: 'I haven't really met a lot of East Coast guys, but the energy here is such a different vibe.

'I really love it here on the East Coast.'

Don't tell PETA: Kim, pictured earlier this week, is a fan of fur, despite her sister's Khloe's involvement in the anti-fur movement

Kim has long been a fan of wearing fur despite sister Khloe taking part in a Peta anti-fur ad campaign.

Earlier this week in New York, the star wore a fur body warmer while cruising the Hudson river.

Meanwhile, the star tonight tweeted photographs of herself wearing a selection of different Halloween costumes as she tried to decide which one to choose.

Both the sexy pirate get up and the clingy leopard outfit revealed her curves, with Kim writing under the leopard photograph: 'This leopard was a little too sexy for the kitties! LOL.'

I don't! Danielle Lloyd calls off wedding to Spurs footballer Jamie O'Hara following 'string of rows'

By JODY THOMPSON

Wedding's off: Danielle Lloyd and fiance Jamie O'Hara out with their three-month-old son Archie in London earlier this month

They had a whirlwind romance and got engaged just seven months into their relationship when she fell pregnant - but now Danielle Lloyd has shown her footballer fiance Jamie O'Hara the red card and called off their wedding.

The pair got engaged in November 2009 and they had a big money magazine wedding planned for June this year.

But following a string of rows since becoming parents to three-month-old son Archie, Danielle, 26, has called a halt to the plans.

A spokesman for glamour model Danielle - who was at the centre of the 2007 Celebrity Big Brother racism row along with the late Jade Goody - told MailOnline:

'Like any young couple with a newborn baby, Danielle and Jamie have seen how easy the pressures of parenthood can affect a relationship.

'With this in mind, they have decided to postpone their wedding next year and concentrate on raising Archie and working hard on their respective careers.
'They are very much in love and want to make things work.'

A source had told the News Of The World: 'Danielle and Jamie have hit the rocks. Last week in particular was tough for them. They're trying to work through their problems.'

Tottenham midfielder Jamie, 24, who's currently out of action with an injury, got down on one knee during a romantic break in Paris.

At the time Danielle said: I thought maybe I'd have some of my celebrity friends. It's definitely going to be a big celebrity do - Jamie's got all his footballer mates and I've got my celebrity friends too.

'We want a big wedding down south. But I would like to have maybe a blessing in Liverpool cathedral as it means a lot to me and my family.'

Danielle got together with Jamie - the third Spurs player she'd dated - in April 2009 after meeting him down her local gym in Essex

Danielle leapt to fame as the girlfriend of retired England and Spurs player Teddy Sheringham in 2006, who she met while he was a judge on the Miss Great Britain panel.

Roll with it: Danielle was spotted yesterday smiling through her heartache with her hair in rollers whilst carrying baby Archie

Up-do: Danielle appeared to be channelling her inner Hilda Ogden, though the Coronation Street matriach never dabbled with fake tan

Ms Lloyd insisted their relationship didn't start until after the beauty pageant, which she won.

However, Lloyd was later stripped of the title after she did a nude shoot for Playboy later that year.

Sheringham famously dumped Lloyd after her controversial appearance on 2007's Celebrity Big Brother, in which she, Jade Goody and Jo O'Meara were accused of the racist bullying of Indian actress Shilpa Shetty.

Later that year, she went on to date Birmingham City striker Marcus Bent and Juventus star Armand Traore.

She also had a brief two month romance with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe in early 2008 and dalliances with Liverpool winger Ryan Babel and Gladiator Tornado, aka David Mcintosh.

Lloyd was also briefly engaged to popstar DJ Ironik in 2008.

Yesterday, the model was spotted out unusually dressed down and with her hair in rollers - just like Coronation Street legend Hilda Ogden.

Her mumsy look was in stark contrast to the glossy model look she's normally known for.

And it appears baby Archie is set to follow in his mother's foosteps with a career in fornt of the cameras too.

Danielle has recently been rallying her followers on Twitter to vote for him in the 2010 Next Baby Boutique Model competition.

The beauty contest run by the high street store lands the winner a prize of a £500 gift card.
