What a load of old cobblers! World Cup casualty Rio Ferdinand shows exactly what he did this summer as he launches a range of shoes

So that's what you've been up to! Rio Ferdinand launches a range of men's footwear, possibly designed as he sat out the World Cup due to injury this summer

So that's what Rio Ferdinand has been doing all summer.

The Manchester United player was forced to miss the World Cup in South Africa after getting injured during a training session with his England teammates.

But while they got utterly trounced throughout the tournament, at least Rio can say that he used his spare time productively.

The Manchester United player was in London today for the launch of his new shoe collection called Five by Rio Ferdinand.

The collection - cleverly named after his club shirt number - was for Strutt Couture, a favourite with celebrities and fashionistas alike.

This summer, he was back in the designers chair, having had a lot of time on his hands after getting injured, not long after he was handed the England captaincy.

He suffered a knee ligament injury during the team's first training session in South Africa on 4 June and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament.

Lucky then, that he had all that spare time to get creative - although surely a design to help support sports injuries wouldn't have gone amiss.

The Autumn/Winter collection incorporates twenty-four styles of footwear from classic to casual, boots and shoes, and even bags and wallets.

And with prices ranging from £60 to £160, they aren't just affordable to Premiership footballers, so fans can enjoy having a piece of Rio at their feet.

Rio said: 'I'm always looking for opportunities to expand my interests outside of football, and fashion is a passion of mine. I’m delighted to be involved and looking forward to building the brand for the long term.’
