Coy Kate's game of hide and ski: Prince William on holiday with in-laws

There had been lots of kissing, hand holding and hugging in the snow.

But sitting on a ski lift with a laughing group of friends, Kate Middleton suddenly went all shy.

The girl happy to be seen snuggling up to Prince William at every opportunity during their skiing holiday hid her face in her hands as they set off for another day on the slopes at Courchevel in France.

The couple, who are holidaying with Kate's parents, have been enjoying family get-togethers in the resort's restaurants.

One onlooker said William jokingly called Mr Middleton 'Dad' during one meal, fuelling speculation over an imminent wedding announcement.

Ski instructor Meret Visser, who ate at a nearby table, said: 'Prince William and Kate looked like a honeymoon couple.

'He held her hand under the table, stroked her hair and kissed her cheek.

'William was clearly very close to Kate's father. Every time he spoke to him, William replied, "Yes, Dad".

'Everyone in their group was laughing at this - it was clearly jokey. But William did look like part of the family.'

Yesterday the couple decided to have their lunch al fresco at 9,000ft. Sitting in the snow on a spot between two mountains, they looked out over a nature reserve with their group, who included Kate's sister Pippa.

William, 27, ducked under a yellow ' off-piste' banner to reach the secluded spot.

Later, in red trousers, a black jacket and a black and red beanie, he showed off some impressive skiing, flying over jumps before racing alongside a friend.

This is the couple's third overseas holiday together in less than a year. They are expected to leave Courchevel this weekend so William can return to his RAF helicopter pilot training course in Wales.
